cockroaches

the dragon insect - a plant hopperHere is a very unusual planthopper (fulgoridea homoptera) known as "dragon insect". These rather large, for amber, plant hoppers have a long very long neck. What looks like it's tail is really it's scary looking head! Click the image for an upclose and personal view.

T102: Only $1000
SOLD !!

Hersiliidae, or "tree trunk spider".  A rare find in amber!!!  The piece is a two inch long domed golden amber with spider prominantly displayed. We are offering this exceptional collector specimen at an exceptional price. Wikipedia tells us that there are about 150 species in this family, also sometimes known as "two-tailed spiders." They range in size from about 10 mm (0.4 inch) to 18 mm (0.7 inch) long. Rather than making a web that captures prey directly, they lay a light coating of threads over an area of tree bark and wait hidden in plain sight for an insect to stray onto that patch. Once that occurs, they direct their spinnerets toward their prey and circle it all the while casting silk on it. To the right is a hersiliidae from India.

We are interested in obtaining additional hersiliidae so let us know if you see one.
